Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract Instruction

◆The main components of Centella asiatica are asiaticoside, asiaticoside, asiaticoside, asiatic acid, asiatic acid and vanillic acid. Among them, asiaticoside and asiaticoside are the main active ingredients in asiaticoside, which have the functions of promoting wound healing, repairing skin scars, anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, whitening, antioxidant, anti-gastric ulcer and hepatitis Efficacy. It can also effectively promote the collagen anabolism of skin damage, and has an important role in tissue repair after skin damage.

◆ The product also has the effects of detoxification, swelling, heat and dampness, and can effectively relieve dampness and pain. Centella asiatica is mainly used for clinical injuries such as bruises and hepatitis. Asiaticoside is an important active ingredient of Centella asiatica, it has a wide range of pharmacological effects, mainly in the treatment of kidney failure, skin diseases and trauma and other diseases.

◆ In the 19th century, Centella asiatica and its extracts were incorporated into the Indian pharmacopoeia, where in addition to wound healing, it was recommended to treat various skin conditions such as leprosy, lupus, varicose ulcers, eczema, psoriasis, diarrhoea, fever, amenorrhea, and diseases of the female genitourinary tract.

Active Constituents

◆ The chemical constituents in Centella asiatica mainly include triflusin, polyacetylenes, flavonoids and volatile oils, etc. These triterpene saponins and their sapogenins are mainly responsible for the wound healing and vascular effects by inhibiting the production of collagen at the wound site.

Centella asiatica leaf extract compositions chemical structure

◆ Other components isolated from CA, such as brahmoside and brahminoside, may be responsible for CNS and uterorelaxant actions, but yet to be confirmed by clinical studies. Crude extract containing glycosides isothankuniside and thankuniside showed antifertility action in mice. Centelloside and its derivatives are found to be effective in the treatment of venous hypertension.

◆ In addition, the total extract contains plant sterols, flavonoids, and other components with unknown pharmacological activity, namely, abundant tannins (20-25%), essential acid (0.1% with beta-chariophylen, trans-beta-pharnesen and germachrene D), phytosterols (campesterol, sitosterol, stigmasterol), mucilages, resins, free aminoacids (alanine, serine, aminobutyrate, aspartate, glutamate, lysine and treonine), flavonoids (derivates of chercetin and kempferol), an alkaloid (hydrochotine), a bitter component (vallerine), fatty acids (linoleic acids, linolnelic, oleic, palmitic and stearic acids).

Product benefits

◆ Wound healing:

The aentella asiaticat extract (CAE) have been used traditionally for wound healing and the research has been increasingly supportive for these claims.

◆ Venous insufficiency:

One of primary effects of centella asiatica extract was postulated to be on connective tissues by strengthening the weakened veins

◆ Sedative and anxiolytic properties:

Centella asiatica was described to possess CNS effects in Indian literature such as stimulatory-nervine tonic, rejuvenant, sedative, tranquilizer and intelligence promoting property.

◆ Antidepressant properties:

The antidepressant effects of total triterpenes from centella asiatica extract on the immobility time in forced swimming mice and concentration of amino acid in mice brain tissue was observed.

Centella asiatica leaf extract efficacy on skin care

◆ Antiepileptic properties:

Asian centella asiatica extract increases the cerebral levels of GABA, which explains its traditional use as anxiolytic and anticonvulsant.

◆ Cognitive and antioxidant properties:

Centella asiatica is known to re-vitalize the brain and nervous system, increase attention span and concentration and combat aging.

◆ Gastric ulcer:

A laboratory study was reported in which aqueous extract of centella asiatica was found to be effective in inhibiting gastric lesions induced by ethanol administration.

◆ Antinociceptive and antiinflammatory properties:

The effects of centella asiatica upon pain (antinociception) and inflammation in rodent models were reported.

◆ Radioprotection:

Previous studies have suggested that CA could be useful in preventing radiation-induced behavioural changes during clinical radiotherapy.

◆ Miscellaneous uses:

A study reported the intracellular activities of an aqueous centella asiatica extract against herpes simplex viruses, in vitro, containing both anti HSV-1 and antiHSV-2 activities.

Product application

◆ Centella asiatica leaf extract can be applied in cosmetic, it can promote healthy skin, anti-wrinkle, cicatrization and help skin recovered, such as burns, scar tissue, psoriasis and so on.

◆ In the health product field, it can enhance mental acuity, stave off memory deterioration.

◆ Gotu kola also can be applied in the pharmaceutical field, it can strengthen blood vessels, and mitigate unsightly varicose veins.

Recommended dosage

◆ Most of the human studies (on Chronic Venous Insufficiency) on this herb have used a centella asiatica supplement two to three times a day, and at each dose the total saponin dose (asiatic acid, madecassic acid, asiaticoside, and madecassoside) has total 30-60 mg given a total daily range of 60-180 mg total saponins.

◆ While there are no human studies on cognitive enhancement currently, rat studies have noted success with 200-300 mg per kilogram of the overall plant extract (since the saponins may not be the only active ingredient for cognition); this suggests a human dose of 32-48 mg/kg and thus:

2,100-3,300 mg for a 150lb person

2,900-4,400 mg for a 200lb person

3,600-5,500 mg for a 250lb person

◆ The above dosages ranges are estimated for cognitive enhancement. Currently, 500mg of centella asiatica twice daily has shown anxiety reducing effects in humans and 750mg of a 5% asiaticoside extract has enhanced mood state; While these doses are active on the cognition, it is not yet demonstrated if they are the dose needed to boost learning.
